Rhythmic Gymnastics Apparatus

Rhythmic Gymnastics Apparatus

Rhythmic gymnastics devices are chosen by FIG, which defines each season what devices will be used in gymnastics exercises. There are currently four of the five approved devices because the rope was moved to senior modes.

Thanks to the Olympic Games, the rhythm has a great following because it is one of the most attractive exercises for the public who loves this sport. Whenever we see a competition or exhibition of rhythmic gymnastics we will enjoy the following.

Whether you practice this sport or if you teach discipline, here you can see the rhythmic gymnastics material.

The devices used in Rhythmic Gymnastics

The rhythmic gymnastics characterizes his exercises using some devices specifically: ropes, hoops, ribbons, clubs, balls, and rods. Although not all devices are present in competitions (only rope, hoop, ribbon, mace, and ball) below we have collected some information about all of them.

Rhythmic Gymnastics Hoops

The hoops are a fairly used device, but less visual than others such as tapes or maces. Here you can see covers for rhythmic gymnastics hoops

The hoops are usually combined with the gymnast’s jersey and are used, above all, at the waist, where the gymnast coordinates them with throws and movements.

The ring is made of plastic. The hoop aims to define a space within which the gymnast moves. It requires excellent coordination and the hoop is used for launch, displacement and rolling.

Rhythmic Gymnastics Ribbons

Tapes are probably one of the most beautiful devices a gymnast can use. They are synonymous with elegance and sweetness and allow you to execute complicated exercises with a very aesthetic result.

The tapes are the device that can occupy more space in the tapestry because due to its length and its flight it can be projected in a lot of directions. In addition, it is a very versatile device, which allows it to be combined with jumps, stunts or throws.

The tape is usually made of a non-starched material. It is undoubtedly one of the best-known devices. It can be thrown in all directions and its function is to create designs in space through spiral movements, zigzag, launches among others.

As you can see, it takes a lot of practice, dedication and perseverance to be able to use these devices correctly and give them proper use. Although it might seem simple from what we see on television, the truth is that it requires a lot of coordination, talent, and technique to make the movements correctly.

Strings

Although many gymnasts consider the disappearance of this device due to its low evolution over the last few years, the truth is that, for now, it is still used, for example, in senior categories.

The most curious thing about this device is that it does not have a fixed measurement, but that each gymnast has it adapted to its height (from the feet to the shoulders). It is one of the devices that penalizes the gymnast when yes while performing an exercise, touches the ground.

Normally hemp or any other synthetic material. It can be tensioned or loose and one or both hands are used to create turns, blows, throws or jumps. The latter is only used in lower categories.

Rods

The rods would correspond, to give us an idea, to the stiletto by which gymnasts grab the tape.

Although it is not taken into account as an apparatus, it is very important to know how to choose a good rod that adapts to the movements that the gymnast wants to perform with the belt.

Balls

The balls are other devices most used in competitions and exhibitions. They are a very visual element. This is despite their movements having limitations. Also, it offers many possibilities for gymnasts who develop their exercises with them.

They usually weigh around half a kilo and never measure more than 20 cm in diameter. Moreover, these are really difficult devices to use for gymnasts. It’s because they can never hold firmly between the hands. Additionally, they cannot be still on the tapestry, under any circumstances.

The ball is of rubber or plastic. There is no allowance to hold it tightly. So, it requires a more delicate relationship with the gymnast. The ball cannot remain static on the ground. Hence, it requires precision and control. Their usage is for bounces, turns, figures, throws, reception among others.

Maces

The clubs are also widely in use across competitions and exhibitions. They are very versatile and low-weight devices. It’s usually between the two clubs. Additionally, they don’t usually exceed 300 grams. So, it facilitates the execution of the exercises to the gymnasts.

Many different movements can help the maces. From throws to blows, this represents retention exercises and even blows.

Made of plastic, rubber, wood. Exercises with rhythm require a great sense of rhythm and a lot of psychomotor coordination. You can make throws, turns, blows (although not with force), retention among others.
